Nature photography: you don’t always get what you want…

On Friday 7th of July, I finally got to experience the birthday present I got from my girlfriend: we drove to the Ardennes (region of Baraque Fraiture) to photograph badgers from a hide. This trip was organized by Landschap vzw. If you’d like to go and see or photograph badgers in the Ardennes, check their website.

Sometimes nature photography can be so beautiful and yet also frustrating if your plans get ‘ruined’. I wanted to photograph badgers, yet I didn’t get any decent pictures of these lovely fellows because it was way too dark when they came out. At least we got to see them! So, while we were waiting for the badgers to come, we got a visitor the guide had never seen there: a racoon! No black and white from the badgers, but from a racoon in front of my lens. Probably his/her presence was the reason the bagders came out sooooo late.

It was definitely a nice evening, still there is that tiny bit of frustration for not being able to get some decent badger shots. Well, that’s the beauty and charm of nature photography. You can get so many unexpected animals in front of your lens, but don’t see the animals you’d expected. Nice experience!

Enjoy the pictures of the animals who posed for my camera:
